Following on from the preliminary consultation organised from 5 February to 31 March, 2024 under the authority of the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP), Orano and XTC New Energy are now engaging in ongoing consultation process to inform the public about the progress of their project in the Dunkirk area. This new stage of consultation will enable further discussions with the public and stakeholders on the project to manufacture cathode materials and recycle electric vehicle batteries in the Dunkirk area.

The ongoing consultation, led by Christophe Bacholle, guarantor of the CNDP, will begin on 7th November 2024 and continue until the public inquiry scheduled for spring 2025.

In this context, a public meeting will be held on Thursday 7th November 2024 at 6pm in the Gérard Caloone multipurpose hall, rue du Béguinage, Gravelines. The meeting will be attended by the two project owners, Orano and XTC New Energy, the co-project owner RTE and the CNDP guarantor.

This public meeting will be an opportunity to update the public on the progress of the project, in particular:

  • Following the preliminary consultation, the assessment by the CNDP guarantors, the lessons learned by the project owners, and the opinion of the CNDP;
  • Developments in the Orano and XTC New Energy industrial project in the context of ongoing changes in the ‘Electric Vehicles - Batteries’ ecosystem in northern France;
  • The integration of the project into the environmental and territorial context of the Dunkirk region;
  • Progress on the project to connect the factories to the electricity grid by RTE;
  • The provisional project schedule.
